What/Who is Planet Bizarro?

Nobody really knows.

Just kidding. Planet Bizarro is a relatively new press, founded by bizarro fanatic Matthew A. Clarke. After making the switch from writing horror to writing and self-publishing several of his own books in the bizarro genre, Matt decided to look for a publisher that may be willing to take a look at his work.

Turns out, there were only a handful of publishers that were known to take bizarro on, and the majority of those were not taking on anything new. After much careful deliberation, he decided to found his own press, entirely devoted to bizarro, to offer a place for others like himself to have their voices heard.

Matt works alongside a small team of readers (the ones who ultimately decide which books will end up in your hands), and an expanding Buzz Team. We’re committed to growth, and championing the genre whenever, and wherever we can.

Bizarro as a genre is often overlooked, yet the stories, the metaphors, and the themes often offer more than any other single genre could bring to the table. The authors we’re offering up for your consumption are INCREDIBLY talented. We believe their work speaks for itself. But you don’t have to just take our word for it — go on. Buy something.

But what is Bizarro?

Chances are, you’ve been enjoying bizarro all along — you just haven’t realized it yet.

Some of the most famous stories of all time could be classified as bizarro. Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl. The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka.

Recent films such as Turbo Kid, and Swiss Army Man (Danielle Radcliffe). Bizarro!

It can often be hard when pressed to offer a precise definition of bizarro to those unfamiliar, but that’s all part of the fun of it. There are no SET rules, but the thread that connects everything together must be weird.

What Makes a ‘Good’ Bizarro Tale?

As with everything in life, ‘good’ is a subjective term. What we may enjoy the most may be different to what you do, but you can be sure we have something for every single one of you.

We like bizarro tales that are not just weird for the sake of it. Give us story. Give us weird, yet relatable characters with interesting development, growth. Give us underlying themes.

Of course, sometimes it’s also refreshing to have a well-written, fun story without the need for any deeper meaning. Like we said — something for everyone.
